    How To Manage Font Settings On Windows 11

    Windows 11 offers a wide range of fonts that can be used to enhance your work. However, if you wish to create your fonts, April 2018, Update (version 1803) has the solution. The old Control Panel was no longer the place to manage fonts. Instead, fonts management can be found under the Personalization section. You can add or remove font families. It can be viewed in different colours, and OpenType Variable fonts can also be used.

    This Windows 11 guide will show you how to download and install fonts directly from Microsoft Store. We’ll also explain how to remove fonts with the Settings app, available since the April 2018 Update.

    How to add a new font on Windows 11

    • Right-click on your desktop screen and choose Personalize.

    Open personalization

    • Scroll down and select Fonts.

    Go to fonts

    • Next, click on Get more fonts in the Microsoft Store link.

    Click on link

    • Note:- For this, you require an internet connection.

    Choose your font

    • Choose the font you wish and hit the Get button.

    Click on get button

    • Tip:- To learn more about the font family, you can always view the descriptions and the screenshots.
    • The font family will be installed once you have completed the steps. It will appear on the Fonts Settings page. You can search the Fonts on the search bar to find the font you are looking for.

    How to uninstall a font family on Windows 11

    You can quickly uninstall fonts from the settings page if you don’t need them anymore or have installed the wrong font family.

    • Follow the command to uninstall a font:
    • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
    • Select the Personalization option from the left panel.
    • Next, scroll down and choose Font from the right panel.

    • After that, click on the font you wish to remove.

    • Click on Uninstall under Metadata.

    • To confirm, click the Uninstall again.

    • Note:- It’s worth remarking that you have control over which fonts you have on Windows 11, certain font families are system-protected, and you won’t have the ability to delete them.

    How to download all supported fonts on Windows 11

    • Right-click on your desktop screen and choose Personalize from the list.

    • Scroll down and select Font.

    Go to fonts

    • Scroll to the root and click on the Download fonts for all languages link under the Related Settings.

    • Next, click OK to confirm.

    • You won’t see any download progress after you complete the steps. However, you will start to notice additional fonts on this webpage within a few seconds.
    • Warning:- This option should only be used if necessary. Moreover, downloading additional fonts can take up space on your hard drive, and it may not be possible to delete them later.

    How to preview fonts on Windows 11

    The experience includes an initial settings page and a detail page that provides additional information and a preview tool.

    • Press Windows key + I to open Settings.
    • Select the Personalization option from the left panel.
    • Next, scroll down and choose Font from the right panel.

    • Click on the font to see a preview and more details.

    • The font preview page is split into two sections. The top section includes a box for entering text and seeing how the letters look in every font face (regular or bold). You’ll also find a slider that allows you to see the text size in advance.

    • At the bottom, a “Metadata” section also provides essential information about the font face, such as its full name, path to file, version, supported language, licensing, and other details. You can also use the drop-down menu for details about different font faces. You can also remove the font family from this section as described in the instructions.
    • If you are a web developer or typographer previewing an OpenType Variable font family, such as Microsoft’s Bahnschrift, inside this page and click the link under “Metadata” on the page to access additional properties.
    • You can view the axis details of OpenType Variable fonts and preview other variants by going to the Variable font properties page.

    You can still manage fonts via Control Panel, along with the new fonts page found in the Settings app. These are the best steps to take as Microsoft will soon remove Control Panel from Windows 11.

    Final note: Although it is not recommended to use fonts from other sources (such as those from Adobe), if you have the font family, you can double-click it to install it.
