You cannot purchase physical USB media for Windows 1 1 installation from the official site. Therefore, you will need to make your own USB installation media.
These are the two best tools for downloading windows 11 into a USB flash drive and making it bootable.
- Windows Media Creation Tool: This is Microsoft’s official tool which allows you to download Windows 11 to create a bootable USB Flash Drive.
- Rufus: This third-party tool makes it simple to create a flash drive for installing the OS on compatible or incompatible devices.

Now, follow the steps to create a Windows 11 Bootable USB Flash Drive using Windows Media Creation Tool:
- Connect the USB Flash Drive to your computer. It is crucial to ensure that the USB stick is recognized and you must have a backup of all files of the USB drive.
- After that, go to the Microsoft Download Center page.
- Navigate to “Create Windows 11 Installation Media” section and click on Download Now button.

- Start or Restart your Computer.
- Wait for the first screen to appear. It will often say, “Press F11 to Run Boot Menu“. The same Boot Menu key requested may vary depending on your Computer’s manufacturer. Now, press that key.
- It will give you options to select the Boot Device, Find the USB Flash drive and hit enter.
Your Computer will boot from the USB flash drive and start the Windows 11 Setup.
How to Boot from USB using BIOS Boot Order/Boot Priority
You can also use this option to boot from a USB. The difference is between these two methods is that changes to boot order will be permanent until you revert those changes back in BIOS settings.
Follow the steps to boot your computer from a USB Pen Drive/Flash Drive using BIOS Boot Order/Boot Priority:
- Start or Restart your Computer.
- Wait for the screen to appear. The message should read “Press Del to enter SETUP” or something similar. Your machine may have a different key, the most common BIOS keys are ESC, F1, F2, F8, F10 or DEL. Wait for setup to begin by pressing the key indicated on your keyboard.
- Go to Settings and Looks for Boot Order/Boot Priority.
- Inside Boot Order/Boot Priority, move the USB Flash Drive to the 1st position.
- Save changes and exit BIOS.
Now Computer restarts, the Computer will Boot from USB Pen Drive and Windows 11 Setup will begin.
How to install Windows 11 from USB Flash Drive
After your computer’s boot order has been successfully modified to load from a USB device, you can begin installing Windows 11 via your USB Flash Drive.
Important: To confirm that you don’t lose any critical data, ensure you have backed up your files before starting the installation.
- You will need to select the language, time, currency, and input method at the beginning of the setup process. In most cases, you won’t have to make any changes here. However, you need to, click on the down arrow to display the list of options and click on the one you wish to choose. To continue, click “Next.”
- Click on “Install now” button.
- If you have the product key, insert it and click next otherwise, click on “I don’t have a product key” to continue.
- Select the Operating System you want to install and click Next.
- Read, accept the license terms and click Next.
- Click on the “Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)” tab to install a fresh copy of Windows 11 otherwise, you can click on the “Upgrade: Install Windows and keep files, settings and applications” tab if you want to upgrade to Windows 11 form Windows 10 or other Windows OS.
- You will need a partition on the hard drive to store system files. This partition will be your main C: drive. Either you can choose an existing partition and format it or delete all and create new ones to start fresh.
Important Note:You can’t recover data stored on a partition that you have deleted or formatted. Always remember to back up all the files on a different drive if you haven’t yet backed up your hard drive. You may want to do so now. Back everything up and then start over.
- Now confirm by clicking OK.
- Select the partition on which you want to install Windows 11 and click Next.
- The setup will start installing Windows and it will take some time, once it’s done the computer will restart.
How to Finish Setting up Windows 11 on your Computer
After the installation, you’ll need to go through the Windows 11 Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE) setup to finish the configuration with your information and settings.

- Select Keyboard layout or input method.
- Add a second keyboard layout, or skip it if you want.
